The Student Archaeology Club
The Student Archaeology Club (KSA), founded in December 2009, is a non-governmental, non-profit professional organization initiated by archaeology students from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Belgrade. The main goal of KSA is to promote archaeology, provide professional development for its members, and educate the wider public about the significance of archaeological heritage.
Over the years, KSA has become recognized for implementing numerous projects, professional excursions, and workshops, as well as collaborating with esteemed domestic and international institutions and organizations. The club organized the international conference STARCO in 2013, conducted professional excursions in Serbia (Lepenski Vir, Sremska Mitrovica, Smederevo) and the region (Krapina, Ohrid), and hosted interactive exhibitions that connect archaeological materials with modern technologies such as 3D animations and archaeological reconstructions.
KSA participates in various academic projects and initiatives, including seminars like “Archaeology and Tourism,” the Erasmus+ project COOLTOUR – Millennials for Cultural Heritage, and international conferences sponsored by the RYCO foundation. At the Science Festival in 2019, KSA presented archaeology to the audience through the social game “Archaeology at Your Fingertips,” while in 2024, it impressed visitors with the workshop “Archaeologists as Detectives,” showcasing the processes of identifying individuals in archaeology.
The club maintains close collaboration with the Department of Archaeology and other student organizations, including the Student Club of Ethnology and Anthropology and the Student History Club. Additionally, KSA regularly participates in promoting the Department of Archaeology at events such as European Heritage Days, Researchers’ Night, and the Faculty of Philosophy’s Open Days.
The podcast “Reactionism,” launched in collaboration with the Student Club of Ethnology and Anthropology, serves as a significant contribution in the fight against pseudoscience, while the academic writing course initiated in 2021 during COVID-19 has supported many students in acquiring the skills necessary for successful studying and research.
KSA remains committed to advancing the archaeological profession and preserving cultural heritage, providing opportunities for students to actively engage in the club’s work and contribute to shared goals.
