Ruma County Museum

Ruma County Museum, established in 1962, is a significant cultural center dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the rich historical and artistic heritage of Srem. It is located in the oldest and the first two-story building in the city. The museum houses diverse collections, including archaeological, ethnological, historical, and artistic, as well as legacies from prominent figures such as Milivoje Nikolajević and Fedor Feđa Soretić.

Founded the same year as the museum, in 1962, the Archaeological Department of Ruma County Museum has over 20,000 artifacts ranging from the Late Stone Age to the end of the Middle Ages. The museum’s Prehistoric Collection showcases artifacts found at one of Europe’s most famous archaeological sites, Gomolava, near Ruma. The Historical Department is dedicated to preserving and presenting the region’s rich history by collecting, processing, and digitizing valuable museum pieces. With over a thousand exhibits, the collection includes a variety of documents, photographs, posters, maps, rare books, weapons, military equipment, and other historically significant items. The Ethnological Department focuses on preserving and presenting the region’s cultural heritage through collections related to household items, agriculture, textiles, and crafts. The Art Department consists of artworks that are part of the museum’s gallery collections, works from the “Borkovac” colony, and six important art legates.

Ruma County Museum actively organizes thematic exhibitions, events, and lectures on traditional customs, folk culture, and heritage, and, through collaborations with local ethnic communities and regional museums, widens its collection, while simultaneously promoting cultural exchange.
