The Museum of Science and Technology
The Museum of Science and Technology was founded in 1989 as a project (working organization) of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and other co-founders at the initiative of Academician Aleksandar Despić, with the aim of collecting, protecting, preserving, and utilizing cultural goods in the field of science and technology. Since 1995, the Museum has officially been the responsible institution for the care of technical cultural goods in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. Since the opening of the Gallery of Science and Technology of the SASA in 1997, the Museum of Science and Technology has participated in the programs of the Gallery. In July 2003, the Museum of Science and Technology was classified among the institutions performing work of general interest for the Republic of Serbia. At the end of 2005, the Museum of Science and Technology was assigned the building of the first public thermal power plant in Dorćol by a decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. With the resolution of the accommodation issue, the need for the reconstruction of this facility followed, aimed at creating opportunities for the complete and modern functioning of the Museum. The author of the museum’s reconstruction and expansion projects is architect Boris Podreka. The project of the conceptual architectural and urban planning solution for the Museum of Science and Technology was presented by the author himself on May 15, 2007, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Old Palace. So far, over 3000 m² of permanent exhibition space has been opened to the public across three locations.
