National museum Veliko Gradište

The National Museum of Veliko Gradište was founded on January 28, 2013, thanks to the legacy of brothers Pavle and Đorđe Đorđević, who in 1979 bequeathed their entire estate to the town with the goal of establishing a museum. The Đorđević family legacy is housed in the museum and consists of approximately 1,500 items related to archaeology, ethnology, art, and history.

The archaeological collection includes artifacts ranging from prehistory to the Serbian medieval period. Notable finds include a Neolithic cup with a handle, a Roman bronze statuette of Mercury, a yellow gemstone with a depiction of a lion, and many others. Thanks to this fascinating collection, visitors can gain deeper insights into the past of various communities that once inhabited this area, such as the Celts and Romans.

The museum is equally dedicated to visual arts. Since its founding, it has organized the Spring Art Salon, an exhibition aimed at presenting various local artists from Veliko Gradište and its surroundings to the public. In this way, the museum showcases new artistic creations from the region each year.

The museum’s goal is to educate the local population about the history of Veliko Gradište and its surroundings, as well as its local art and culture, through exhibitions, lectures, and workshops designed for all age groups.
