Sombor City Museum
The Sombor City Museum is an authentic testament to the rich history, culture, and traditions of this part of Vojvodina. Founded in 1883 and officially opened in 1945, the museum is housed in the magnificent building of wealthy landowner Julius Lederer. With its striking facades and elegant interior, the building itself is a cultural monument and part of Sombor’s historical heritage. The museum’s collections explore all aspects of life in the region, from prehistory to contemporary artistic achievements, and are divided into four departments: archaeological with numismatics, historical, ethnological, and artistic. The archaeological exhibit is particularly intriguing, showcasing cultures from the Mesolithic era to the modern age, while the ethnological collection is filled with artifacts reflecting the daily lives of the region’s past and present inhabitants. Art enthusiasts can enjoy the art department, which includes works by renowned painters such as Arsenije Teodorović, Tan Mor, Matija Haniš, and the famous Uroš Predić, along with remarkable examples of applied and contemporary art. Throughout the year, the museum hosts a variety of exhibitions and events, offering visitors of all ages a chance to experience the spirit of its collections in a modern and interactive way.
